Hey guys quick question,  I have a 73 DT250, the wiring in it is a mess.  Does the headlight and running light operate only when running? Or also with the battery, I know a lot of the old enduros had split systems.  Thanks

73 US model headlight and gauge illumination requires engine running and key in second on position.

All other lights run on battery.

Thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking, is the 3rd key position to the right just for the tail/parking light?  Thanks

Manuals that explain how everything works are available in the Tech Library...  Owner's and Service...

First position - off
Second (first on) - daytime
Third (second on) - nighttime

Nighttime turns on taillight (battery powered by US law from ~1970 on) and headlight/gauge illumination (engine powered)
