Wonder why Yamaha skipped the '71 RT1-B lower chain guard? Maybe they tried to save a buck (Yen) in '71 but the 360 really needed it so they put it back on the RT3?

That is interesting..

Both schematics im looking at show it 70/71 yet 71 lacks the breakout, in the parts list.. hmm.

Curious,  Is the 71 trailing arm setup (mounting area)  for one?

I'm pretty sure the RT1-B had the lower chain guard.

My guess is there is a "glitch" in whatever cross reference was used? Happens quite a bit both ways.  Sometimes there are parts listed by a cross reference that do not fit that model and sometimes parts that do cross over skip a model.

Those model cross references are a great guide, but they aren't 100% reliable and accurate in my experience.

My parts book from that era covering RT1 and RT1 B , shows the lower chain guard as being fitted to both .

Hum...well my '71 RT-1B was new out the box when I purchased in '71 from AlFegoda's Motorcycles in San Francicso,  it did not have the lower guard. Picture of it when I brought it home. Could have just been left off, who knows. Would the dealer install it presale or did it come from the factory installed? When I restored my current RT-1B I installed a lower guard and when doing so I thought " never remember my first RT-1B having this guard".  Lousy picture, Polaroid from 55 years ago. Sorry can't get the picture to load? Not quite sure size is small ?
