HT1 Engine rebuild issues was created by Pkreimer

Been a while since I've worked on my 1970 HT1 first post in forever!

A simple kickstart shaft replacement turned into a bottom and top end refresh...

A few snags/questions..

I found this washer/spacer (see attachment) in with all the bolts from the engine mount and I can't seem to figure out if it's even for this bike or just got mixed in. It was dirty/crusty like it's an external part (if that makes sense, not just oily)

Also, when I tighten the nut for the primary drive gear (#18 in attached diagram) on the right side of the crank, the effort to spin the crank increases.  There also seams to be so side to side movement in the crank there.  Not that I can push/pull it by hand, but it moves when I snug up the nut.

I see crank shims in the parts diagram  (#14 in attached diagram) but i don't remember having them and it lists 1971 HT1 as using them but not the 1970.

Any thoughts on any of these things?  Thanks for anything!

Replying to myself!

The washer appears to be

248-27226-00

it goes between the rear brake pedal and the split pin. That makes sense based on where I stored it and the build up of grime!

www.cmsnl.com/ has actual pics of the parts and it looks to match.

That's good. Was just starting to say the washer has had a hard time. But that explains it. Regarding the crank being tight to turn once nut tightened--tighten it again & tap the end but place a piece if alloy or something there so its an indirect hit. You could tap it both ways wouldn't hurt if careful. What is probably  happening is after assembly you have the crank against the left side. Crank is super tight in the left bearing. So then you'll have a few thou or more gap to the right side bearing so tightening the crank nut forces the crank to the right but it's resisting moving in the left side besring so a tap each way or even just the right side should fix it once nut is tightened fully. Check nut again after tapping but should still be tight.
