On your seat I guess EBay is the only option I don’t have a spare. I worked at the Yamaha dealer back then so I we did a mild port job to make it better that was my ride to work and play bike in Tennessee you could get your motorcycle license at 14 years old

You're starting with an 8.5 horsepower engine and a small form factor 54 year old bike with less than three inches of suspension travel. You can spend a ton of money and never realize significant performance gains. My advice is to either enjoy it in its stock form or buy something else with more power. If you've just got to do it remember that good parts for an HT1 are scarce so don't ruin a good head or cylinder experimenting. Buy a GYT Kit top end that is optimized for performance. Be prepared to pay an arm, leg and firstborn male child.

You could try sourcing an MX head, exhaust, and jug. Or maybe have an HT-1 jug and head done to MX specs and get an exhaust made? Then swap the carb to the VM24S.
