My DT1F was created by Crazy Horse 124

A couple of weeks ago I finally got the 71 Enduro on my handy dandy Harbor Freight bike lift. It had been sitting in the back of the shop for the past 2 years. I am hoping to ride it this summer so it was time to start on it. Today I removed the rear fender and the chain guard so I could get them ready to paint. The fender is pretty crusty near the battery.
My question has to do with the rear tail light wiring. How do (OR) should I remove it from the fender so I can clean up and paint the fender and tail light parts? From the way it looks I am guessing that the connections were put on after the wires were run through the little "tunnel" on the top of the fender. How have some of you delt with the problem?

I don't recall having an issue, aren't the connectors small male bullet type?

(Also, technically no such thing as a DT1F model...  71 would be a DT1E I believe?  DT1F was the VIN prefix for 1971 to 1973 250cc Enduro models)

The wiring loom portion that threads through the rear fender is easily replaced with bullet connectors intact .
I've done it .

"Well I alway thought it was a DT1E, but the Engine number is DT1F"

Yamaha did some very confusing things with their "models", "types" and VINs - 1973 to 1975 "model" RD125 was called a "type" AS3 (even though AS3 was the previous "model") and European market DT250A and DT360A had VINs starting DT2 and RT2 respectively!

I probably said this already but US market DT1E, DT2, and DT3 all had same DT1F prefix stamped in frame and engine.

It's not a problem or anything...  but important to realize since Yamaha made quite a few significant changes during the life of the "DT1F" prefixed VIN.

Another question I have concerns the rear sprocket on my bike. It is not the original and it appears to be larger then stock. What size was stock on this bike? 39, 44, ? I would rather have more top end speed. so I am thinking of going with the 39T.

That's a big jump in sprocket size . I'd try going up a tooth on the front sprocket  instead .
44 T was the original rear size .
