1971 Yamaha DT1E 250 Wiring Diagram was created by 2-smoker

Can anyone direct me to a larger, more interpretable wiring diagram for this '71 DT1E of mine?

The one in my owners manual is the best I can find but small and I'm not too fond of its layout - difficult to read/follow.

The only one I immediately see here on the forum is the 1968 DT1, but it is not complete for a DT1E.
(Perhaps one of the other '71 models would be the same/complete for a DT1E?)

And BTW, my owner's manual one shows 4 wires in the harness coming out of the engine (black, green, yellow , green/red) - whereas mine has 5... there are 2 green wires instead of just the 1 green that is shown in the schematic.

Also, there is an additional short black lead coming out mid- engine harness - what is that for?
Not the same circuit as the black one that goes to the coil ?

I'm no Sparky expert, so I need all the wiring help/info I can get on this..... thanks.

Yes, the black out of the engine harness not connected to anything is the same as the black one that goes to the coil..  It can be used to connect a "points checker" to set the timing.  If you want to be sure, connect it to a ground and you will lose spark.

Green is daytime battery charging and green/red is nighttime battery charging.  Not sure why they aren't on the diagram.  But both green wires simply go to the ignition switch and each connects to the white that goes to rectifier depending on what position key switch is in.

This can be seen in the main (key) switch legend on the diagrams and Yamaha has a wire color legend on the diagram tells you what I just did.

I’ve thought about bringing my rt2 schematic to the printing shop. Have them enlarge it. Get a couple copies made and color it in.

Thanks - that's helpful

Any idea though, why there are 2 green wires along with the green/red, black, and yellow... and the wiring schematic shows just 1 of the green ones - not 2 of 'em?

There should not be two solid green wires coming out of the stator.  One is green, one is green/red.

You might also have a white wire, which after 50+ years rarely looks white, that is not connected to anything.  It should be discussed in the Service Manual.  Basically it's an optional higher-rate daytime charging wire that you connect instead of the green...  then the green would be unused.  Super rare to need to do this and if you do, you'll likely just boil the water out of the battery much faster in my experience.

Ah, my bad.  Got crossed up.
Yes, I have the 4 wires coming out - green, white, black, yellow and the green/red.
I think I got pre-occupied with the DT1 diagram showing only 3 wires and my DT1E showing the 4.
