tank sealer was created by my68dt1

My 68 sat for a few years. I was surprised it had a good amount of rust forming inside. I filled it with white vinegar for a couple days. That got rid of the rust. Now I have a clean tank. Should I use a sealer, or just keep it full of fuel. Being an auto lube, the fuel has no oil. Anyone else had a rust problem? Stan

If it's clean and hole free, then I wouldn't bother with a sealer - some have fitted them ok and swear by them, others have had no end of problems with them. To protect the inside, you could rinse round with two stroke oil.

If there are no pinholes or seam leaks and you’ve cleared up all the rust issues I’d recommend not introducing anything like red cote or por-15. Fill with gas and maybe add a fuel stabilizer if you’re storing it. Some have suggested coating with marvel mystery oil if you’re storing it for a while empty, others may have alternate opinions.

is that amazing fish and chips joint still there On the Encinitas cliffs as you head down the hill to the beach area? Had my sister in law pick up a CT2 for me out in Ramona a few weeks back. Just got it delivered and digging in now.

Even with a good functioning autolube system I like to add an extra 1.0-1.5 oz. of autolube injection oil per gallon of gas in the fuel tank, it helps keep the inside of the fuel tank happy and a small amount of insurance in case the autolube pump ever fails, will it save the motor in a complete oil pump failure “no” but it can’t hurt either.

I add a couple oz's to my 5 gallon bulk tank.. that also feeds a few other "old" gizmo's..

Since three people recommend no sealer I will not go down that road. As for the fish, and chip place, if it's the one I am thinking of, it's always busy. Stan

Another vote for no sealer and recommendation for adding a little oil to the fuel in the fuel tank.

No sealer either but I do use metal etch available at a auto paint store shake for about a minute and it leaves a thin coat of phosphate for protection against rust gas will not remove the phosphate coating

I am not to the stage of running my current project yet, but with the '74 360 I am running a light mix and the autolube setup (after a DEET renewal). I'd prefer a little more smoke and an occasional fouled plug to a seizure. Just sayin'!

Mark - I like the idea of adding a little oil to the tank even with proper autolube output.
How much oil do you add to a ~2 gal fill up?
