What Fly Wheel Magneto is this? was created by Dirtboy

Asking the experts if this may be MX, specifically if it would this suit 1971 DT1 MX? or did the MX bikes use the standard enduro FWM?

DT1MX used the enduro mag complete with lighting coils--be good for a 24 hour race!!. Someone's stolen a lighting coil by the looks. Both my bikes DT1 & RT mixture has the source coil only & lighting coils removed--if i ever had them, mix n match at my place. Maybe that's why my bikes gallop down the paddock like a horse a no two lighting to even out the magnet pull--or not, stop being stupid 'me', it's covid lockdown fever madness here in NZ. Now my bank is under a cyber attack so can't even go buy something haha.

Genuine DT1 MX mag looks identical to genuine Enduro mag in the early years, because as was said already they are the same.  I think it may have been only the 72 DT2 MX that got the internal rotor points magneto.  (I actually found I have a set of new Yamaha points for that one-year ignition, not sure why)

Then 1973 was the MX250 with a CDI.

If you want to see the DT2MX internal rotor points magneto there have been photos posted here by members and the DT2MX service manual and the DT2MX owner's manual in the tech library both have a picture...

Yep, familiar with the internal rotor point dt2mx as had one new & was faultless. Mind you that was 50 years ago if you can find one. But i put a full flywheel DT1 mag on my bosses RT2MX to tame it plus easy starting with the heavy flywheel inertia. but wait there's more lol. Between models waiting for the mx250 i borrowed an old DT1 out of the shop & fitted a race kit plus fitted the internal rotor RT2MX cdi mag that was sitting around. Bolted straight on as it should & was great. Not sure why they went to the trouble of running a one time points mag on the DT2MX & the next year went CDI like the 360. Elsinore 250M had the same or similar points mag--different base plate, but!!

cool, thanks for your answers guys!

found that picture link for the DT2MX in any are interested.  goo.gl/photos/56aiXJRbu9ThvXBT7

Reason I was asking is because in the box van of bits I once bought, I figured I could try and build a reasonably close 71' MX replica for little more than the original deal and was wondering about which mag to use from the box of parts...and now I know

That brings back good memories. Now i want one too. How much of the rest of the DT2MX motor have you got. Man that'd liven up your DT1.
