‘69 DT1 for 1500 - what do you think? was created by EnduroDan

Just up the road is a nearly complete ‘69 DT1 250, that hasn’t ran for a while- what do you think the value would be? Are there parts available to get it going again?  It’s on Craigslist in San Luis Obispo.  I can’t figure out how to post it here.

Good price for SoCal considering it's with a title, looks like it shouldn't be too hard to get in running condition but can't really say that w/o seeing a bike in person.

As a restoration project it has some potentially expensive bits missing, front fender, correct tail light, headlamp, forks look rusted beyond repair and what on earth is that oil filler cap doing in front of the gas tank? Looks like an ok rider project to my eyes though.

I did notice that it looks like the cylinder head is not stock.  It would likely be a money pit, but here aren't many of them around.

personally I think you could get prob get it for closer to 1000 or at least a bit off 1500 if you showed up with cash if you seek such a model.

Been through 3 bikes now with covid - '74 DT360, '71 DT1E, 1969 CT90K0 (don't laugh) and I think it's $1500 min in parts to get one running properly and reliably and safely (tires, brakes, tubes, wheel bearings) if your lucky, more once you factor in other things like expensive engine and fork seals, inner fork tubes if originals rusted too far, ignition / electrical parts, zillion gaskets and seals, cables.  But still cheaper than playing golf and much more fun if you were to ask me.

Agree w/Msavitt's assessment to get her running & safe.  As ad states bike prob 90% there, engine turns over and has title.  Head looks original but compression release added and engine not painted black originally.  Missing correct taillight assembly, has newer petcock which is fine, upper fork tubes look rough, 4 bolt flywheel cover missing but readily available, oil tank likely repainted since missing white pinstripes - all minor stuff (except fork tubes not cheap).  I like original patina on these bikes and while it's rusty with a few hours of elbow grease much of the rust can be cleaned to be very presentable.  I'm currently working on refreshing an original 69 dt1 that looked very close to this one when I started and looks significantly better after thorough cleaning.  But no way to know what's actually needed until you start peeling back the onion.
Best of luck with your decision!!

Well here goes my 2 cents. Ask yourself a few questions......How many have I seen lately? Do I think I will see another anytime soon? Plus if I do find another how far will I have to travel....Will I be saying WOULD OF, COULD OF, SHOULD OF If I don't buy it... Hope that helps you decide... Good Luck

The "terrific investment" doesn't work anymore with my wife because she said I never sell any of them.........

Worth $1500 all day long in the UK. She looks sweet to me, if I was over there it would be a done deal. Plenty  of parts available still. Go for it pal.
