Headlamp Housing "YHA" Number was created by Phils2888

I am searching ebay for a 1971 headlamp housing and I notice many are reference to a "YHA" number. I assume more than one bike uses the same housing. Is there a listing to reference the YHA numbers? Thanks.

Now now Mark, that's a very serious accusation to be making (but thanks anyway)! :ROFLOL :ROFLOL :ROFLOL

No list that I know of. Partzilla and CMSNL will show which bikes used the same part, but they must be identical in colour as well to show there.

Research and patience will be your friends here. Look at CMSNL, fleabay and the internet in general for pictures of the headlight housing for your bike. Make a note of what other bikes the housing (allegedly) fits and search under those bikes as well. You will quickly build up a small database of info that you can cross reference against and then be sure that the part you buy is the correct one.

Be wary of sellers who list a part as fitting multiple models (eg RD250/350/400) - they're not necessarily wrong, but enough of them are to not take their info at face value.

When you're confident you know exactly which YHA number you want, and if you have the time, you could search under all Yamaha headlight housings. Ignore what the seller says it fits - what you're looking to do is view the pictures to see if there is one with the YHA number that you need. When I bought the clocks for my RD400C (one year only clocks here in the UK), the speedo was listed as being off a Yamaha R5 and the tacho off a RD125DX - because I knew what I was looking for, I just ignored the listing titles.

You can always ask here for confirmation of the headlight YHA number for your bike.

Good luck!

Thanks Mark and Alan. Really surprised there isn’t a published list. I’ll use your advise. Thanks! Phil

I agree that it would be handy.

It would be really useful for switchgear as well. For example, loads of old Yamahas used the same left side switchgear body, but in different formats - eg some had the indicator function blanked off, some the headlight on/off function blanked off. With a little knowledge (and a list of fitments!), you could build what you want from parts - I've done this a couple of times.

CT1 has a YHA-107 bucket. Pretty sure all the 175's, 250's, and 360's in the era you're looking for used the same one. 12volt AT1 was different.
