Alternative shocks for RT1? was created by Pete-RT1
Anyone have any recommendations for replacement rear shocks on a RT1 or are the original dampers serviceable?

Morning Pete.
I've seen mention of "Redwings", plus one or two others that I can't remember the name of! Maybe search the forum if no-one chimes in.

Pete-Rt1,
I got a pair of RedWing 'Hammerhead' shocks back in 2012 for $200. They don't appear often, but I found a listing on Ebay today for a set, at $350 for the pair. They were made by a division of Kayaba back in the day. Link is below.

darinm mentioned these shocks (link below) in one of his threads. Put them on a CT2 with some modifications needed to the top mount (too wide). The are not expensive!

Based on his recommendation, I got them, and yes, too wide at the top, and the eyelet bushing sleeves are too small for the shock bolts. I was going to use them on my AT1 restoration bike, but changed my mind as I wasn't sure about modifying the top mount, and how it would look.
Then I got my '71 DT1 and the rear shocks had ze-ro damping. So I grabbed these Showa shocks and did the mod to the top mount and drilled the sleeves oversize, and, they look great! Their damping is just ok for a 200 lb. rider

Thanks Apex, they look great.
I'll see if they are available in the UK.

Hi Pete, I'm in the UK too and was thinking about a set of these for my DT3
(Koni) shocks
. They're meant for an SR400 but I dont think there would be much difference in terms of damping and the length is almost the same as original.
