Shinko 241 18x3.0 up front and 18x3.5 in the rear, you can see various tires on the bikes in this thread, makes a handy reference.

Sweet thread, do I dare go where no other has gone before? 4" rear, 3" front? :) Rear end is way higher on my 70 than my 71, 4 might be overkill. Why am I having a hard time finding a vm24 rebuild kit?

I would love to be schooled on all things AT MX and GYT, we've previously discussed the 175 top end so I'll reference back to that.

Got those desert pegs! Is there a thread on here that I'm not finding about redoing seats after getting a new cover?

I have not seen a thread on doing seats, but these bikes are much easier to do than modern moto seats. Easy to figure out on your own. I'd get good foam too, I went with the cheapest option and after 2 years ~2k miles it's already feeling "packed out" a bit.

The fellow who did the spun air cleaners passed. I don’t know of another source.

Most of the carb kits are not all that great, just order the stuff you need from Partzilla or Rocky Mountain ATV.

4” is overkill on that bike without extending the swing arm, which can be done. Here is an example:

That bike also has a DT1 front end with 21” wheel grafted onto it.

Here is my AT1 with one of the spun air cleaners:

It also has a 4” Chang Shen rear tire which fits, but a knobby would be too tight.
IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

Great info, great bikes. Loving the extended swingarm, front end conversion and I just happen to have a DT1 parts bike.

Off to the races, got some sweet parts coming and just deciding on tires now. Appreciate the feedback. I do have a mechanical question in regard to both my ATs though. The 71 starts immediately on choke then died and when taking choke off and using electric start it takes a loong time of holding it and after finding that sweet spot with the throttle it'll rip to life. If warmed up you barely touch the start button and she fires. 70 is running great except it idles fast and when you try to tame it down you get to a certain point with the idle screw and it's like all or nothing, either too fast or hits that point where it's too slow and dies. That one has a fresh top and is missing the electric start. Starts fine. I know the 71 could use a fresh top end too. Is compression on that one the culprit or you all thinking carb? I set up these carbs quite some time ago so I may need to get back in there and am trying to get the appropriate rebuild parts online.

I would agree that the bad starting is down to compression.
If these bikes don't start within two or three kicks, providing everything else is serviceable,it most definitely points to compression or lack of it.
My HT 1 starts first prod hot or cold as does my TDR 250 and DT 3 250 and the crank seal on one side is leaking on the DT !
Have some fun at the moto.
We need pictures.
