Hi Gary.
Good to see the boy getting in there.
Another way of freeing off is getting a hot air gun on the barrel for a bit .
I removed a solid HT1 barrel from a motor by plugging the ports up and filling the cylinder with Evaporust over night. A little heat the day after and off it came. I then filled the crank case up to free the crank off just to see if it would and sure enough it did .

What did you plug the ports up with? I'll pick some Evaporust this weekend.

Slowly advancing on getting the cylinder off. Bought a heat gun, got the cylinder loose. Used the kickstarter to move the cylinder up. Made some spacers to place between the cylinder and the cases. It's soaking right now and will hit it with some heat tonight to see if I can get it to move some more.

This process will be good for my son. He'll learn not only how to work on motorcycles, but how to confront unexpected problems, not try to rush things, and step back and figure out what the next step should be. He'll see you take pleasure in the little accomplishments along the way.

Could try forcing the flywheel a little & might get it to move up then down & keep doing that to get more up & down each time.
Halfway down this link page i'm trying to free it by forcing the flywheel haha. Funny looking back but got it moving --& running in the end. Not suggesting you get 'that' brutal, but can put a reasonable force on it considering it's already moved a bit but would need to bolt the cylinder down again to try that. Then again you should be able to go one way as it sits for flywheel to pull it downwards.

Your patience WILL FOR SURE payoff. I had a Bultaco cylinder that was stuck about 2 months ago. It took 3 weeks to get it off with using a HEAT GUN, PATIENCE and time. I hate to say but I probably had 12-15 hours time into it after 2 weeks. I then just took a break for about 10 days because I had hardly made any head way. When I started back on it within 5 minutes I started to see some movement. About 30 minutes later IT WAS OFF..

SO yes PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE

Got the cylinder off this weekend. After looking over the piston and cylinder I think I'm going to go first over on them. Will be working with my son over the next month getting other parts cleaned up and painted until the money is available for this next step in the process.

Got a first over piston and rings from Enduronut (thanks). Will be sending the cylinder and piston to Bill Bune to get the boring done since no one in town does two strokes. Finally got my bonus at work so I can set up a workbench in our new house and will be pulling the engine next so I can replace some seals and check everthing else out on the motor.
