79 GT80 Oil Pump question was created by idealtrucks
I'm fixing up a 79 GT80. I don't think that the pump is working though. It does not have a on the side of it to manually turn. I can hold the throttle open on it, and kick the bike over and the plunger is not moving. I'm assuming I should be able to see the plunger moving in and out when kicking it over, right? I can push and pull the plunger in and out by hand. Thoughts?

You'll wear out the kick starter checking it that way. Probably would take at least 50 kicks to get the pump to go through one stroke. Output is measured in cc's per 200 pump strokes so it would take like 10,000 kicks to test the output that way.
Running the engine on premix while checking the pump output is the recommended procedure.

Gotcha. I wasn't sure what the ratio was on that. I'll check it that way

Don't mean to hijack the thread but have same issue with my CT2 I just got back together after a complete rebuild, bearings, seals fresh bore the works. Anyway the guy I got it from never used the oil pump and only had one cable going from grip to carb so I got all three parts from Dave at KDI, connected the pump up, bled it and while running the engine the pump arm doesn't seem to be moving, I can get on drip out of it every 15 - 20 seconds (didn't really time it but seems like that). Even after giving it some RPM's there's not really any change.
