MX360 Ignition was created by 77hornet

I have heard the ignition off a 79 YZ250 will fit an MX360. I like the idea of the external flywheel. Wouldn’t an IT250/400 also work? I would be able to use the lighting coil for night riding at my son’s property. Any other external flywheel ignitions fit?

Pretty sure any ignition from a 74-on DT250, DT360, DT400, or IT250/400 to about 1979 have lighting coils and should bolt right on and work if you get the complete matched assembly... stator/flywheel/CDI box all from the same bike.

Considering the cost of the original CDI's and the reliability not being the best, I'd look at a new VAPE system and buy it directly from VAPE.

79 yz250 would be internal rotor for sure. 79 dt250 is cdi full flywheel of course & I "think" it'll fit straight on but don't hold me to that. Good idea though. I did similar in '72 using a DT1 ignition on an Rt2mx.tamed it good but still much the same power, just mellowed a bit plus easy starting with more flywheel inertia.

And actually if it was my bike, I'd want to use the 74-on DT250 points ignition.  I find the points to be simple and reliable as a rock.  But a few years ago you could find them for good prices like $100 for everything.  These days the used systems are hard to find and prices approach the cost of a new VAPE.

Good evening, I will make time to dig it out tomorrow, take some pictures and we’ll go from there.
I believe $100.00 is good on my end.
