I've seen some great posts about insanely prices parts....you know, the last couple of bits you would love to have to finish your resto, but cannot justify pushing "buy" on for fear of wife or creditors!  Here's one of my favorites:

I would like the first version kickstart lever with the 4 o'clock pinch bolt for the '68 DT1.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

At least you'd get free shipping.

I’ve been lucky and bought a couple for peanuts when they showed up on EBay. The bad thing about paying a ton of money for one of these is you still need the lock to match your lock set on the bike. New side cover locks are still available but what a bummer to have different keys for different parts of the bike. Those small things drive me crazy.  Luckily my DT400E came with original unbroken cover and original lock. I’m hanging onto my other covers for when other bikes come along that may need one.

Diddo on the 4 o’clock kicker for the 68. One of my 68 bikes came with it but bad splines and was drilled and pinned through the shaft. I’ve researched places and methods to replace/repair splines but no good solutions yet. My other 68 came with a 69 kicker so somebody had already replaced a possibly broken 4 o’clock one.

Pedalcrazy - sounds like you've cornered the global supply!

I am thinking the easiest way to get a cover is to just buy a bike that has the desired cover and then sell on the bike!

Martin…I’ve known the covers where a hard item to find since I bought my first 78 DT400E back about 7 or 8 years ago. That bike was missing it. I found one for it and put on a new lock. Hated that it needed a separate key for the cover. Sold that bike. Bought my keeper DT400E back in Feb 2021. Has an excellent cover and matching lock. Found an NOS cover and a really, really nice used one so that’s all I’ve got. Think the NOS was like $150. The really nice used one came with a couple other 78 400 parts and was only like $75 for the lot.  Those items were Buy it Now of course. They wouldn’t have gone that cheap at a real auction.
