Barn find was created by hackman101
While I was reminiscing about my ideal ride to my uncle, he mentioned to me he knew there were a few bikes that his brother-in-law had in one of his barns. He thought they were a Yamhowey or something like that. I said Yamaha? He said yes that's it. It got my attention....He gave me his brother-in-law sons number, since his Brother-in-law has passed away an arranged for a meeting wit his son today. This is what I found.
Other than the obvious decal showing it to be a 175 Enduro, the serial # shows it to be a 1981DT175H
The other is a 1978 DT175E
Really just posting to get some feedback on picking them up. If I rebuild them I may keep one and sell the other. The son is selling them REAL cheap

In my opinion, there is a lot of work (and money) involved to get them back to usable. If they were important to you I would dig in, but even if they are real cheap I am skeptical if you can get them running and presentable without being in the hole.
Go for it if this is a passion (like me). I would probably take the project but fair warning that you are not going to come out ahead if that is a goal.

When I was told about the bikes, not knowing what year or size they were at that time, I just hoping one of them might have been like my first "real" bike, a 250cc DT1E. After I seen them, thinking I would like something to ride that is street legal, I did consider them for a rebuild. If it is going to be a huge investment, I might need to pass, in spite that he only wants $200 for the pair. My 73 MX250 was like RTD2 mentioned, a passion to get it going again, not so much these. The MX is something I will sell soon, trails are really tough out here, nothing to take it easy on. I will make it look good before I sell it. Was looking for something to replace the MX.

There's a lot of rust. Other than that, not sure they'd cost a lot to get running unless engines are locked up. Might not be pretty to look at though.. Fair amount of parts available still for those models (which are great bikes by the way)
One thing to consider is plastic side covers (which are very often missing) can bring some decent money.... if you have all 4, selling them would likely cover the purchase price. If tanks aren't dented too bad and not rusted out, they should sell easily. Same with plastic oil tanks. Mufflers with insert probably easily sell for $75 each in a heartbeat. In other words, if you bought them for a good price you could probably make a decent amount of cash parting them out... and fairly quickly if you priced parts reasonably. And you'd be helping others get their bikes restored.
Then use the $ to buy your DT1 dream bike.

If you decide to get them and part out I'd be interested in the tail light and depending on front/rear fenders condition I'd be interested in them as well. Maybe other parts as well.

That's what I was thinking Pete, if they are anywhere in Florida, south Georgia or south east Alabama I'd buy them!
