Question of torque specifications was created by AirborneSilva

In the manuals the torque specs list sizes, i.e. 6mm, 7mm etc. but what I have a question with is, are they talking about the size of the bolt or are they talking about the size of the wrench/socket used?  always wondered about that...  Thanks!

Hello Tony.

My interpretation is that they are referring to the diameter of the bolt.

Hi Alan, thanks for the reply.  I was always able to find specs for things like head bolts and flywheel but I was looking for torque specs for motor mounts and couldn't find any, just wanted to check mine on the DT2.

The torque chart in my '71 to '73 combined shop manual lists the nut and bolt size, then the torque. For example a 22 mm nut would be on a 14 mm bolt, which should be 33 to 37 ft lb. A 30 mm nut would be on a 20 mm bolt, and should be 50 to 60 ft lb.

Thanks Tom, would be nice to have one of those charts that list both nut and bolt size for those easily confused like me

You can find it in the tech library in the manual I mentioned on page 138. Most often I just torque to good'n'tight ft lbs ;o)
