original seal was installed correctly
it seems "backwards but that's how it goes based on pressures, whatever
the castle gizmos face the bearing and you will be pressing on an edge vs a flat surface when installing

I'm not exactly sure what bike you're working on... only you are or I missed where you told us.
The original clutch side seal would be a proper dual lip with a spring on both sides so you probably went for some standard single lip seals?
On some models the castle turret bumps are important and always face in.

whoops forgot this wasn't on my dt3 thread. I got these seals from a buddy of mine who bought a dt3 and then never needed the seals so they could be wrong. One side is flat and the other is open. I would be fine ordering new ones if needed but I just want it done right, hah never thought Id be so confused over a seal.

They might be the right size but sound like single lip seals... original type dual lip seals might be harder to find for your model. You could try Enduronut or DEET if they are.
Some people use the single lip seals... I try not to. Original seals usually have a special teflon coating so they wear longer and the original SW type dual lip seals are designed to seal much better against pressure and vacuum.

Thank you for your help mark. I wasn’t able to find any of the dual lip seals so I’m just going to install the one I have and if it doesn’t last long atleast I know how to replace it haha. Here is the pictures of the seal I have. I believe that the “flat” side with the key on it face outward tward the clutch cover but I’m not sure in that so far. If anyone knows please let me know

Are the castle/turret bumps the marks you see on the open side and not the flat side? If so then the “open” side would be the one facing the crank?

There aren't castle turret bumps on those seals like some originals have.
You can put them in any way you want I guess.... just try not to press them in far enough to block oil flow from transfers if your model has that possibility. Most people would put them in flat side out.

I decided to do the smart thing and listen to Mark and get the right seals. They finally got here today. Thanks to deet as well for helping me find the correct ones! I compared the new one to the original and it looks great! Cant wait to get the seal installed as well as my new clutch plates. Still gotta clean up the oil pump gasket though..

I bought that same kit you're showing on your picture off eBay. I've replaced all the seals except for the crank ones, those two aren't leaking, yet.... I still have oil leaking a bit from the left side of the case on my DT2. I believe it's either the one behind the countershaft sprocket or from the one for the shifter shaft. I found the Yamaha seals for the bike; the shifter shaft seal from Partzilla, and the countershaft seal on eBay, both new, not NOS hard 50 year old rubber.
