Removing crank seal help was created by bhepp15

How do I get this golden metal part out nicely and or does it come out with seal? Stuck at this point right now

The gold metal is part of the seal. Punch a small hole in the metal, thread a wood or drywall screw in a few threads and hook the head with the slide hammer. A few slides on each side will pop it right out.

I notice that all the other ones online don’t have the metal part either so I assume either you don’t need it or you reuse the one with holes in it? Sorry I’m just a little confused here

It’s part of the seal. Many replacement seals will be all black.

Which direction? Haha the manual says markings go out so I’m assuming the “plate” side faces out but I would hate to be wrong. Is this orientation correct? Only reason I’m second guessing is because the spring would now fade crank but it did not in the original.
