I'm getting real close to trying to fire up my DT2. I did things a bit backwards from what most here seem to have done by working on the cosmetics before I knew if it'd run or not. The fuel tap was leaking badly when I bought the bike, I cleaned it up nicely and replaced all the internal gaskets, but still don't trust it. I don't want to find out when I'm ready to start her the fuel tap needs replaced and I have to wait on another part.

I purchased an auxiliary fuel tank to use on the initial start up and have a few questions.

1.) Better to run pre mix in the auxiliary tank, or to connect the oil tank to the autolube pump and just put straight gas in the auxiliary tank? Right now the oil tank's empty and the line's disconnected to the pump.
2.) If I'm to run pre mix in the auxiliary tank how do I keep from burning up the autolube pump not running oil through it?
3.) If I run pre mix in the tank do I unhook the split throttle cable from the pump?

Next Wednesday through Friday are to be in the mid 40's to low 50's here in south central PA and if it's not raining I want to see if she starts and runs. This morning I bought a half gallon of ethanol free 90 octane gas, I have spark and loads of compression. Compression discussion is in another thread; yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/forums/1972...ion-test-help-please

Its not completed yet... I'd get the autolube working properly.. no monkey-ing around afterwards...

Just my thoughts on what i'd likely do in your situation. Others may disagree--all good.
Pump needs oil to survive but probably leaves enough in there to lube the gears even when too low to pump. Think i'd hook the oil tank to pump & bleed it out the side screw for a minute then leave the cable off & run it on premix for the first run as you're obviously a bit worried about the pump. Note--throttle return will be half strength without pump spring helping return. So have a plan incase throttle sticks--which it shouldn't if it feels free statically testing minus pump cable. Can test pump output to the cylinder later. It'll still be getting negligible oil from minimum pump stroke with cable unhooked. You'll be plenty safe on premix. Motor must be pretty oily from what you have said previously so she'll smoke the village out for sure. Look forward to the start up!!
