Regulator mounting idea was created by adguy2112
I could dig up one of the regulator posts to append but dinner is almost ready and I’m famished
just installed a regulator into a CT2 and happy with the result so thought I’d share. Two flat 2.5 inch 1/16th pieces of metal cut to the contour of the frame (just above the horn). Drilled hole through the center of both pieces and holes on one piece to line up with the holes on the regulator. Placed two 1.5” bolts through the piece set to accept the regulator with a 1/4 inch rubber or plastic spacer place on the bolts after the come through the bracket. Join the two pieces of metal together with a 2 inch threaded bolt, slide up on frame to just above the horn and secure with locknut. Then position regulator onto the two bolts sticking out towards the front wheel and tighten securely. Run wire from regulator up through frame gusset and to headlamp

Nice idea..
P.S. Case of regulator must be grounded... would be best to run a ground wire if you haven't already.

I just mounted mine a few days ago. I ended up routing the holes out a little bigger so i could mount it on the tree. The same bolts that hold the fender on is what im using, just had to get longer ones and some nuts. Gotta test to see if its grounded still.

Mounting it on the tree it should indicate it is grounded. Turn signals mounted to handle bars pick up a ground. Just make sure metal to metal contact and no paint insulating it.

That tree has been powder coated. This is my first time doing a voltage regulator hook up and im having trouble checking to see if its grounded or in circuit with my test light. Probably gonna need some help on this but before i read more pages that confuse me and make a post im checking with someone who i think knows how to do this.

To verify proper grounding connect one lead from an ohm meter to engine/frame ground, the other lead to the housing of the voltage regulator. Should be 0 ohms or very close to 0. The regulator bleeds off excess voltage by converting it to heat that is dissipated from the housing. Best mounted where air can flow over it.
Also when going through the electrics of these old bikes make sure all the grounds are good by cleaning ground contact points to bare metal. And new ground wires are a good idea and so is a new wiring harness while your at it.

Ok so she is grounded which is good! but how do i test to make sure its in circuit with the wiring harness/battery? Hopefully im saying all this right im bad with electrical lol. I should note that i dont have the engine in the frame or any of the lights hooked up except the gauges. Also im using a 12 volt battery from my TW just for testing purposes.

Best way to test it is by running the engine up to about 3,500 rpm and measure the voltage going to the headlight. And of course this would be after you finish assembling the bike and all the electrical components are good.

Enduro Nut, you will need to splice it into the blue wire(s) in the headlight bucket, as per the Service Bulletin in the Tech Library.
I am attaching a link to a thread where I described what I have done on mine - see last paragraph of post #4.

DT250 that is actually my plan i was doing some reading here on the forum and that seems like a very easy way to test to make sure its working properly.
Gr8uncleal i actually reached out to you a few months ago about how to hook everything up and i checked on the service bulletin as well, thanks to you and that she should be hooked up correctly. I still have a long ways to go until i can fire this thing up, gotta paint cases and order new bearings/seals and much more.
