ok i just opened mail and bearing i got is clipped together with pins inside and doesnt really look like it comes apart easy so maybe i was missing half of original or i think i ordered a 71 year bearing thing but other is 69. do you think there different or i just missed the retaning part on 69? i kinda afraid to pull it out bag to look better. it seems like i need this bearing style. anyhow this style i can install but is there anything new or like it that works good? i guess im good to go now clutch wise.
thanks

Pins--"little needle rollers"-- are not meant to escape out of their slots in the bearing. Bearing comes as two pieces with a washer as part of it. Here's a link showing No17. There's a kickstart gear not shown there but looks like the bearing goes needles against the big thick washer with bearing thin washer 'outwards' then kickstart gear so the thin washer protects the needles from the kick gear. For some reason i thought that bearing went on the other side of the clutch but ignore me as just thinking aloud. Second link shows No29 the kick gear i mentioned. You must be VERY careful that the bearing doesn't get trapped behind the spacer it sits on while assembling the clutch & clutch hub, as can move put a little if not careful & bearing gets trapped behind damaging it. I think later motors did away with the bearing & just spaced it up with a thick washer or totally changed the design.

My ‘71 dt1e has same type of roller thrust bearing which I totally destroyed by crimping by not being careful while assembling. And of course I became confused when ordering until I realized that the part number included the thrust bearing with needles itself and a thrust washer that serves as one of the two bearing surfaces upon which the rollers roll. I found one on eBay luckily, very cool design detail vs a thick flat washer only

Oh and to be clear one cause of my confusion if I recall was that the solid washer that came with the needle bearing was not shown on partzilla pics. Washer 18 which doesn’t come with bearing completes the sandwich that has needle thing sandwiched between 18 and the plain thrust washer that came with needle bearing part 17 Oh and to be clear one cause of my confusion if I recall was that the solid washer that came with the needle bearing was not shown on partzilla pics.
