Mikuni carb question was created by adguy2112

Perhaps many of us are on the way to the endurofest so expecting longer to get advice from our resident experts. This post was the original feed on my CT1 project but based on Mothersbaugh's suggestion on another topic I thought I'd try a new post. Just have a question about a specific carb passage on the bike before I rule out the carb as the issue. . I soaked in berryman dip for about an hour then ran a small drill bit (only slowly and by light finger spinning with no pressure) down the right bottom hole on the air inlet Carb opening. A bunch more gunk came out but it’s still not blowing through that I can tell. The bike starts fairly easily and seems to rev fine at higher RPMs but it won’t idle and you have to feather the throttle until it smooths out at higher RPMs. All other passages seem clear so I suspect this passage is the culprit. Anyone know the function of this channel?

If it's stock carb does nothing, goes nowhere.

Thank you for confirming Mark. The carb is spotless and all passages blow through but it's still not running properly. Will idle with idle screw well above three turns. So far I only rough timed it so perhaps that is the issue or it could be the exhaust pipe needs to be cooked. I turned the bike on it's side and drained the chamber when I did the dry side seal until nothing more came out. The clutch seal was completely out when I came to it but I can't remember if I had drained the oil before starting on the dry side. Still getting white smoke but it's lessening. Kicking myself for not draining it again when I did the right side. It runs best with the choke on and wants to die without the choke. In both cases it only runs somewhat normal at higher RPMS but will stay running as long as I keep on the throttle. I'd like to avoid taking off the head for timing if I can help it but I may have to. Still need to locate a suitable dial indicator. Then I'll cook the pipe and try to get it cleared out. It's loud since the bike doesn't have a silencer and end piece. Hey at least I have it running, somewhat. It's been a lot of work to get it to this point. Huge help from everyone here. I've been working on these bikes since I was a kid and still learning.

NVM, I figured it out. Rigged on the pipe from my LT2. It wouldn’t start at all. Put the correct pipe back on and started again but same rough run. Just opened the points up a little so they start opening sooner. Runs pretty darn good now. It’s too dark and too loud with no silencer to test ride I think we achieved another milestone. OK, happy now.
