I had a long thing written out and tried posting pics but the page then said "forbidden". The pics were not that big of a file size. I refreshed the page and lost everything I spent the last hour carefully thinking through. Kinda frustrated with myself for not thinking the refresh part through...
Oh well.
One of the questions I had wanted answered was about my stator. The forum has mentioned about swapping the stator out for a magneto. The key and keyway are shot. Since the stator was loose, is it safe to presume the coils are too?
The mouse crap that was in the filter, I will need to split the cases. I hope these pics come thru, so disappointed that the original post went missing. Much more detail then, too frustrated to try to recreate it.

Frustrating i know when you loose what ya loading or trying to. Be good to see pics of the stator as you'd be surprised what still works. Or would "i be surprised" if it does work!!, is it a mess. Had one of those bike new in "73--memories eh!!, mostly good.

Two thoughts on the loss: 1) write what you want to say in a file elsewhere on your computer, and then cut and paste when you are ready to share it with the forum. Or 2) write a bit and then use the edit feature of your post. It allows you access for corrections, updates, and the like.

@mothersbaugh, thanks for the tip, I am going to do that. Perhaps I should do it as a new topic? or just add onto this thread?
@RT325, here are a few pics of the stator. Still not the best, but it gets the idea across, I hope. One side is really widened, much more so than the key. The other side is not as bad, but surely adds to the dilemma of whether the key will allow everything to line up the way it needs. I just threw in the pic of the key, it is truly in sorrowful shape. If anybody may know the size of it would be greatly appreciated, I would like to get it off the shelf of a local hardware supply, not ordering it from a Yamaha dealer and pay trough the nose for it.

Ok, that's the rotor not the stator but that's ok we're on the same page. New key & see how much slop it has. If it's loose the there should be a btdc measurement somewhere.
Ok i just cheated a bit & found this on the ozvmx site i used to frequent but not for years--must get back for a look. Used to go by Over-The-Hill if that's how i spelt it haha but appropriate name. So basically 2.4mm btdc & align the mark on the rotor with trigger coil mark on the stator. "Stator so called because its stationary & rotor--rotates. Might add i've never seen a rotor loose & eat the key like that, amazing. Actualy in hind sight i tell a lis. Back 40 years at a dirt day play day a kid with a yz80 had that happen & somehow i got involved & just lined up the keyway & rotor & did it up tight & it was never going to slip. Made his day anyway. Found a pic of mine but i won't fully load it & hog your page. Just hit it to bring it up if you want. No9 leading an SC500 & an RN400--but not for long haha, probably jumped the start.

losses like that happen to me when texting. After I write a long one, I can bump something with one of my thumbs, and everything just disappears. Does not get sent, but gets deleted.
The new thread idea...six on one, half dozen the other. Some guys use one thread for everything on one bike, others jump around some. If you are using one thread, you run the risk of losing someone who has no interest in, say, a DT360, but may know the ins and outs of timing in general. So in titling, be aware of your title still saying something general when you have moved on to wanting something very specific.
