I removed my horn from the bracket to do some wire re-routing and repair,
naturally, I should have removed bracket and all. I removed the rear mounting
stud nut and pulled the horn. Consequently it came apart, a 2 piece metal
Collette inside a rubber cushion,also, 2 metal washers. I re-assembled and
mounted it, now I don't get the sharp beep I had. I can almost get it back,
by turning the nut but the nut is almost all the way loose. Wondering if I don't have those 2 washers correct ? If I knew there was going to be an issue after
putting it together, I would've taken pictures....Thoughts ?

I should have added, it makes a buzzing sound, instead of the "beep"
that it did. Kinda reminds me of the "horn" my old 2023 Lionel locomotive produces with a 'D' cell battery....!

I for one am trying to remember what your horn might look like. I remember the ones held together by screws and the ones that were crimped but not sure what you have. Pictures would probably help get an answer. Or just take it apart and fiddle with swapping parts around until you get it working again?

Thanks Mark, it is the crimped variety. As I said, had I known there would
be an issue with it after putting it together, I would have taken pic's before.
I've done some searching, even "images" of one disassembled, but no luck.
That's probably what I will do, take it back off and swap the 2 washers around.
Perhaps the operation is dependent on them, they are not flat, but have a
contour to them. I appreciate You responding.

The old 6 Volt horns can be temperamental…if there is the small screw on back for tuning try turning it ever so slightly one way or the other. My guess would be to go counterclockwise a tad first then try it. Also I have four old bikes with those horns and some of them have to be running to provide the highest voltage to get the horns to sound off. So, check it with bike running and tweak that adjusting screw.

Thanks Pedal,
Yeah, it only works with the bike running, I'll have to look closer to see about
the screw. Was just tightening/loosening the rear center mount nut. If not,
pretty sure the correct placement of the washers is important. Not that big of a
deal to take it off and figure it out. Just thought someone maybe knew and I'd save some time. I appreciate the responses guys. Will post when I figure it out,
perhaps at least would help someone out in the future. If no adjustment screw,
I will definitely take pictures of the parts.

I don't remember the exact way the washers go especially without seeing them.
I do know they can be finicky... over tightening the mount a little can tweak it enough to stop working. There should be a phillips screw on that type.. a little adjusting will probably get it working.
Here's an old thread with some pictures.
