dt2 right crank seal was created by austinbikergirl

While tearing down the motor for rebuild I noticed something unusual about the crank seal. According to parts diagram it has been installed incorrectly.  Has this seal been incorrectly installed or are the reference materials wrong?

I think it is backwards, the numbers on the seal usually point outwards and that spring should be on the inside.

Like crankcase stuffing, it reduces the lower end volume to increase the primary compression ratio!

Reference materials are wrong.

That crank seal is installed correctly.  If you had it removed, it should have "castle turret" nubs on the other side that go in first to prevent the seal from being pressed in too far and cutting off oil flow to crank bearing.

Yamaha 250/360/400 crank seals are the exception to the "numbers out" general rule.

I think its an aftermarket single sided seal so they've decided on putting the spring towards the oil--which sounds like it worked in this case. I have a pair of those cheapy seals but so far not used them--but will oneday.
