1972 DT2 Wiring harness Question was created by Bamos3

More wiring questions for my DT2 restoration. The harness is a NOS one for a RT1, but essentially the same as the old DT2 system from the bike.

Also, no engine in yet, so no light testing at this stage.

Everything seems to be working fine, indicators, horn, stop light, but....

A few stray wires, Any clues where they connect too?

At the battery, I have a stray black wire. (Same on my original DT2 harness).

At the section near the coil, there is a stray blue wire. (Not on original DT2 harness).

In the head light is a green/yellow wire, diagram says it connects to a resistor? (Same as DT2 harness).

Your help greatly appreciated.

Not sure what diagram you are looking at but green/yellow is traditionally front brake switch wire.

Blue is normally taillight or instrument lights.

+1 to Mark's comments.

Blue probably connects to a wire coming from the main ignition switch, but you might have to splice it in if all of the components aren't matched to one model.

The black will be an earth. If all your electrical components are working, then you could leave it loose. However, I'd probably fit a small pigtail wire with a ring connector at one end and attach to the frame.

I don't see a fuse in your red circuit?

The wire harness you have (233-82590) may have two loose blue wires (near the ignition coil) that were used on 1969-1970 DT1's with a "choke" voltage regulator.
DT2 didn't use the "choke" so those wires have to be plugged together to complete the circuit.
The DT2/3 uses the 308-82590 harness.

There COULD be two loose blue wires with male ends in this area. One plugs into the ignition switch (rear running light), the other would be the "choke" wire.

Black wire with a male end (in the battery area) plugs into the battery mounting box ground wire....NOT the battery.

I am still making these reproduction harnesses if anyone needs one.

DEET-

Just what purpose did that choke serve? Was it an early attempt at a voltage regulator? I know there was a service bulletin out regarding installation of one a few years later, and as another member indicated in a different thread, around '76 apparently voltage regulators were added from the factory.

I've seen that choke thing listed & never sure how it worked. Thought maybe just a resistor to soak up some volts but ones i've seen in pics had no cooling, like a little sealed tin thing with two wires.
