DT2 cylinder alternatives was created by Jogar

Howdy all,

I’m in the process of splitting my cases on my seized DT2 bottom end. It didn’t come with a jug, and I fear I may have to replace the crank rod anyways cause it’s rusted in place (I think).

are there any interchangeable jugs for the DT2? If so, is there anything I should be weary of / change while I’ve got the bottom end open?

thanks!

Not really, just DT2 or DT3. Or DT1 if you wanted to change the rod to a longer rod. Or if you wanted to wheely off into the sunset--a YZ250A or B.

Several cylinders on eBay. Some used, some new. Correct part # is 311-11311-01-00. Some of the eBay listings are incorrect. The DT2MX and DT3MX is different. RT2 and RT3 also different. Used ones will likely need to be rebored to a matching oversize piston and rings.

Yes DT2MX "72 will fit that i'd not thought of. DT3MX doesn't exist. In "73 they went MX250 which is a total motor change. I guess we're meant to be sticking to trail cylinders? lol. Me gettin carried away--or should be at times.

Any tips for splitting the case? If it’s seized (hard to know without getting in first) what are the usual suspects that need new parts? I’m guessing bearings and seals…

Here's a randon DT1 video i just googled & found & is very good & clear. If you want a slower look you can reduce youtube to .25 speed. It's all very relevant to your DT2 except your selectors in the transmission will have three selectors on shafts instead of one wrapped around the drum. Must admit i skipped through it a bit but should be very helpful.

What is he doing at 17:59 in that video? Is he measuring between the spacer and gear with a feeler gauge?

Not sure if this will work, Service Bulletin 259 on gear shimming and notes from Lyn Garland.  (most people don't bother with shimming trans)
