Dt1Mx piston in an Rt2/3 was created by 45chop
Hi all,
Anyone know of any issues fitting a dt1mx piston in a rt2 ? Seems like mx pistons still available while rt pistons no more.
Thanks

DT1 is a 250.
RT2 is a 360.
RT2 is a 360.

If you have a 72 360 it’s a Rt2 and you need a rt2 or rt3 piston because yours is a reed valve engine Rt1 won’t work because it’s a piston port engine

I intend to try an RT1 piston oneday. It'll run but be iunteresting to see how good or bad. Lack of holes in the shirt wont stop it but how much get up & go i'll loose i'm yet find out. Same pin height & everything. In fact i 'did' try one but cut a rediculouse hole in the back then chickened out after thrashing it around for quite a while. Went good too, but had one hand on the clutch waiting for the skirt to drop off. Might have the pic somewhere handy.
Found it.

Some very good reed valve engines did not have holes in the piston skirt. They still had boost transfer ports fed by reed valve when piston was down far enough to uncover the transfer ports. It would probably run fine.
I think I commented on this before... but if you want to cut holes in cast piston, best do it up high like RT325 did.
Cutting holes or even opening holes in the skirt of a cast piston often results in skirt breakage which make a real mess of the engine.
