gas cap seal questions was created by 5gear
the bike i picked recently only had one of the three gas cap seals intact when i got it. i've got replacement seals, but i'm not sure if i have it assembled right.
#2 on the diagram has sort of a point on one end, does that face up toward the cap or toward the tank?
#3 seal has a steel disc with a small hole pressed inside it, right?
the part above #2, is that a steel washer? i think i am missing that part.
when assembled properly, does it leak at all? like if the bike is tipped on it's side for instance
hope my questions make sense,
Thanks

Probably dozens of posts with pictures if you search.
One of the best I've seen starts at #14 here... yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/forums/gene...mbly?start=10#126319

You're very welcome.
Just FYI, I searched for "gas cap" on this forum which returned over 800 posts. You would find it there if you scrolled far enough... and TONS of other posts on the topic.
I added "assembly" because I thought I remembered Jim had posted about the proper assembly... so with "gas cap assembly" as a search term it showed up in the first couple pages of posts.
Searching might take patience and time... but there's not many topics that haven't been covered here dozens of times.
There are a lot of questions asked here that never get answered very well... which is sad because a really good answer is probably here someplace. Sometimes questions don't get answered at all probably because people are tired of typing the same answer over and over.
I wish somehow searching here was easier... but there is just SO MUCH information here you need to hunt a while sometimes.

Your last paragraph Mark T sums it all up. I am guilty of not taking the time to look…

I can answer one of my own questions now: When assembled properly, the gas cap does not leak, even when tipped to the side and sloshed around.
Thanks again for the help.
