CT-3 carb question was created by Dennis D

Took my carb apart to clean/rebuild. Found it had a 4L6 needle and a 220 main in it.
The only manual I have for it is a Clymer and it specs out a 4J13 needle and a 230
main jet for it. Someone on here said there was a revision on the VM24SH carb and
I am having no luck finding a service bulletin on it to see if this was the revision that
Yamaha recommended or not. Nothing like having a Clymer and a Keyster carb kit
to work with

. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks, Dennis

I don't have a specific recommendation for your CT3 as my experience is with 250 and 360 Enduros. I can suggest you avoid parts from a kit and avoid previously used parts of unknown sources. Start with what the Yamaha parts manual specifies and use genuine Mikuni jets and needles that are new in an unopened package. I've seen jets that are drilled and needles that are shortened and shaped. When tuning you want to make small changes and then test. Also a restricted air filter and exhaust will complicate your results.

Others may chime in with specific CT3 experience.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Hello fellow tuner!

I have been looking into this a bit, and have not come across alternative jetting specs.

The '72-74 reed basic manual' found on the site here shows carb specs for various models.  Your combo doesn't show up on any of them.

Hopefully, whoever had it before you knew what they were doing.  If it runs well, hallelujah!  Maybe just rebuild and ride.

Oh - wait.  I'm looking for a VM24SH from a CT2/3 ( AT2/3 has the wrong slide cutaway ).

Your carb is junk and should be sold ( given ! ) to me for safe and respectful disposal.  Yeah, that's it !

I will go back to the original parts before I run this setup. Although it
should be on the rich side with this needle setup. I prefer that with the
new piston to have it being lean. It wasn't a runner when I got it, so I
don't know how the carb was tuned. Rest of the parts that are in the
carb are correct. Did you check with Sudco for a slide for your carb?
