73 Yamaha dt3 250 top speed was created by Josgnal87

I have a 73 Yamaha dt3 250.Can't get it go any faster than about 35 mph. Timing seems good. Spark is good. Carb is clean. I can see a little exhaust leak at the cylinder right where the pipe is. Could this be causing it?

Can I borrow from RT325…..?
Is the exhaust pipe clean? May need to burn it in the fire pit to clean it up right.

Can i borrow it back off Sneezles61 & second it lol--Exhaust. Seriously though, we need a bit more info. Is it the small Oring on the jet setter in the bowl. If not sealing properly it'll drown out like the main jet fell out--go super rich like the choke is on & then some, in a bad case. & yours sounds bad. But back to the exhaust.

I'm not sure what "timing seems good" means...  timing is either set correctly or it's not.  These bikes will run...  albeit not too well...  with timing pretty far out of whack.

I burned the exhaust in a burn barrel. A healthy bit of smoke came out. The carb. Yes that oring is smoked. Waiting on a carb kit in the mail right now. Would the oring cause it to foul plugs often. I only get a few hours from a plug.

I misspoke. The timing is correct. And by that I mean by the book. 0.126" btdc. Or 3.2 mm.

Jet setter o-ring is critical.  Will run way rich if it's bad or leaking.

Thanks my quest for today is finding that o ring. I'm gonna hit up the local hardware stores and see what I can find. And if none of those work I'll order them.

Yamaha still sell them, so buy one of those to avoid any doubt.
