RT2 exhaust noise was created by Bennofish7

I just purchased a restored, (90%), 1972 RT2. I owned a DT1 50 years ago and thought it be the perfect bike to throw on the back of our RV. Unfortunately, I’m afraid to start it up in a crowded campground because it’s too damn loud. Is there an aftermarket muffler that I can attach to the existing tail pipe? Or is there a way to pack the stock muffler to dampen it? I realize there will be a power loss, but since my racing days are over I’m OK with losing a few horse power.

Welcome!

Does it have the original air filter box?  (Open air filters add a lot to the noise)

Stock insert in the outlet of the exhaust pipe?  (Many were removed and thrown away)

I fitted an underneath exhaust of an RZ350 modified to fit. Might have been an RD350LC. Was 40 years ago. Quite as a mouse. Original pipe will ring ding through the chamber walls no matter how baffled it is unfortunately. But baffling is a start of course. If looks weren't an issue i guess you could wrap the complete pipe from head to toe with nois deadening heat wrap. Actualy i think it looks quite trick when wrapped neatly.

Kind of the nature of the beast. Two strokes are always louder than a 4 stroke. When I'm riding around the neighborhood I keep the revs low so I'm not annoying people, and just open it up when I'm out on the main streets. I'm thinking of putting my CT1 on the back of my motorhome eventually, and I'd do the same in the campground. Frankly, I don't think it would bother people much, as long as you aren't zipping around like a maniac.
