Hey gang, I'm pretty sure the seal in the right side case cover for my autolube pump is leaking, and I want to replace it. What's the best, and safest, way to hold this plastic gear still while trying to remove the nut?

I just did mine and simply held it with a rag and my hand, and then used my Milwaukee rattle gun. Brrrrrrrrt. Off it came. I did the reverse to install after the new seal.

Should work with a rag or heavy glove & i'd just use a ring spanner & the same for tightening.

That nut on the plastic gear is not real tight. usually I can hold the gear with one hand and take the nut off with a 1/4 ratchet and the right size socket.

Same here, I took that off a week or so ago, just used a rag to hold it and a socket wrench. It's not that tight.

Have you got the pump off or still in the case. If still fitted you might have 'fun' removing the old seal with the shaft coming through it.

Done!

Pretty amazing that's all the tighter the nut is considering how tight/stuck everything else has been on this bike. I just held the gear with a gloved hand and turned the nut free with a ratchet.

I had the oil pump off and it's seal came out without any struggle.
