CT3 - starting problem was created by Gallotti
hi guys,
I can't get my CT3 to start.
I have completely restored it, put the VAPE ignition system on it (BTDC 1.8mm piston), new Polini CP 24mm carb, K&N air filter, new piston rings, new spark plug (makes spark). Opened and cleaned engine piece by piece. I got the oils you guys recommended.
To date I have been able to start it for 5 seconds with the throttle all the way open and I find that odd. It makes a nice white smoke and as soon as I let off the gas it shuts off.
It's like it can't get pressure. I used to have a Husqvarna and if I went down a couple of times with the kickstarter lever you could feel the resistance....then I kicked and it started. This one doesn't.
I think I've checked everything. I also disconnected the oil pump because I thought it was greased (spark plug was greasy).
Heeeeeeelp me:)

Red flags for me at the carb and the K&N. If you have the original carb I'd just clean it up and put it back on. Then use an oiled foam uni filter. If it's a K&N pod filter they are a disaster for jetting and letting dust in.

The old carburetor is gone and the new one is a bomb in comparison. I understand that the filter can create problems in the long run, but right away at the ignition? I doubt it...

Sounds a bit like the right side crank seal popped out when you weren't looking. Plug would be very oily though if that's the case. Are you sure the new carb has the main jet fitted & not left out. Piston in the right way around with holes to the rear as i've seen that before & runs a bit like you say. Sorry if i'm asking silly questions but hey, gotta come up with something.

It doesn't leak a drop of oil. All bearings and seals have been replaced, all new.
Carburetor mounted correctly, main jet installed. Piston correctly mounted.
Will be missed, no stupid questions.
