1973 CT3 + VAPE Ignition + Motogadget M.Unit was created by Hercules Amadeus Amóre

Almost all done with my 1973 CT3 build and thought I’d share some pics of the electrical system...
Fingers crossed, I’ll have lights and blinkers and a horn tomorrow!! I bought all the components from Revival Cycles in Austin, and couldn’t recommend them higher - tech support over the phone and through email is second-to-none! Aaaaand this bike rips!

Very interesting. Is it 12 volt electrics now as can't quite decide from the battery pic. So that's a complete flywheel & stator plus other bits n pieces?. Electrics worry me lol.

Are you using a NC relay with the M-unit to kill the ignition?  Are most of the wires going to be pretty much hidden?

I'd like to see more and hear how it works out!

Yes, it’s a totally new 12v electrical system (flywheel, static, reg/rect, coil, etc) custom made for the CT3! All I’d done before this was wire my garage bar for power and lights; it was not too difficult to figure out with wiring diagrams and internet videos.

MarkT - The NC relay is required for the push button kill switch to work with the m-unit.....I’m still learning electrical systems, so I don’t know if I can explain it, but it works! Most of the wires are hidden and I’m going to try and build a proper harness....just wanted to get it going. The m-unit is very cool, I just got done customizing my headlight and brake light settings. Plus my fifty year old motorcycle now has an alarm.

I knew you needed the relay to wire the VAPE kill to the m-unit.  Just wondered if you decided to do it that way.  Won't it be like a keyless system now with a fob or something for the alarm and ignition switch?  I looked at them a few years ago and really liked it.  I was just leery of what would happen if I was out riding and either the unit or fob got drowned in a river or something.

Sounds like your VAPE worked well too...  I worked with the previous owner (Powerdynamo) to develop kits and listings for all the 175 models.  They kind of had a mess identifying models and relied on several owners sending in dimensions and measurements...  some were way off.  I think they had like 8 or 10 kits that were all slightly different and really didn't know how to ID what kit fit what.  After I worked with the owner we made some tweaks and he sent me the parts to try.  I wrote the catalog application and we got it down to 2 basic kits that fit all the 175's from 1969 to 1981...  there are flywheel options but the stator plates and flywheel tapers are narrowed down from what they were.  We worked a little on the custom Yamaha wiring diagrams and got them pretty good but then the owner got sick and had to sell to VAPE.  I'm glad they continued making them.  It's a nice ignition.

Awesome, this is exciting as I'm just getting the Vape kit on my CT2.  I'd be curious where you ended up putting the regulator, if you used the regulator provided in the Vape kit.  The kit instructions recommend mounting it at the back of the air filter case, but I replaced that with a K&N, so I'm guessing I may I'll have to find a place to attach it to the frame or something.

BTW the M unit looks sweet

Thanks
