That could be a pic of my workbench and o-rings selection earlier today. They don’t fit...

I'm pretty sure they are still available from your Yamaha dealer .

That's what I thought, hence my line of interrogation, I mean questioning!

I haven't a clue what size they gave me - it was trial and error until one sort-of fitted. I lost track which one I ended up with. Fundamentally the ID and OD appear to be the same as the original that came off, but the section of the one I've fitted is around 2/3rds that of the original. I think he said the one he gave me was 2mm section.

You didn't order an original from Yamaha then?

Yes, but it's one of several items in the post to me as part of a trial and error process. I couldn't find any mentions of 214-14147-00 relating to the DT2, and some uncertainty from carb fixers themselves. Lots of "fits your bike" references to smaller-engined machines, so just decided to go to see a real human stood in front of shelves of o-rings holstering a vernier. But you do start to pick up on the nuances, and if the images I see of 214-14147-00 are the actual item, then the dimensions when compared with what I got in the end appear to make it the correct one.
But this is the value of these forums. You start off not knowing, then realise you don't know what you don't know, then go back to information you weren't sure about, then realise because of new knowledge that something you dispelled is actually probably correct. But then you get those little bits of uncertainty coming in to play.
And then you have a sod-it moment, drive 20 miles - twice - to see a bloke with a vernier, buy something close to spec that you're not convinced will work, slot it in, fire up the bike, find it seems to solve the problem Big Style - wow - then revisit the 214-14147-00 information with new understanding.
So my life was taken over for the best part of a week all because of a pencil-diameter piece of rubber the relevance of which may not actually have been key.
Based on the throttle range influence of the needle and jet - 1/4 to 3/4 - and bike behaviour, I'm now wondering if it was the missing thick washer from the base of the needle jet setter that's had the bigger influence...
So now I'm thinking "wow, what a difference either the o-ring or the washer made, but I wonder if it'll improve even more with 214-14147-00 and the correct jet setter washer (I used a stainless steelie for now)?"
I really have better things to do.
Or maybe not.

Sorry to ruin whats been a good day for you with the carburettor but slipping out of top gear will be the dogs on 5 slipping out of 7 with probable wear on selector 10 with very likely chipping wear of the high point of selector drum 1 in the central track that corresponds with moving 5 into 7.
5 & 7 are in the second link & 10 & 1 in the first link. Tried to save the pics & link them but just came up with a snippet of the full pic. You could increase the detent plunger spring pressure or a stronger spring but not recommending that as only increases the pressure on the selector which is trying to hold it in gear while it's desperate to escape.
Right--best plan under the circumstances is to gear it to the moon & don't use top. Cotton reel sprocket on the rear & as big as you can go '17' on the front. Then you'll have 4 nicely spaced ratios as top gear is an overdrive on all those boxes 250 & 360 & about a step & a half in ratios-guessing--& used to annoy hell out of me when racing mx on my DT2. Very first DT1 pre "70 has nice spacing all the way but coarse tooth spindly gears & i twice broke the 3rd gear wheel & think 5th too which made a hell of a mess & came out the bottom. Anyway, apologies again. Oh, & possible breakage of little roller 14 in the first link. Been there & done all that. They went to solid pins with no rollers after that.

Thanks RT. All Martian, I'm afraid. Gearboxes are dark arts meets quantum physics in Japanese - backwards - for me. Carbs and maybe barrels/heads are about as far as I'd risk myself.
I've already decided it's going in to go in and get fixed properly after I've enjoyed it in the first four gears for a while.

Ok, good luck. If you have a good shop very familiar with these old girls then that's great. If the slightest doubt then point them to what i've said--well the main story but not the woffle haha. Let them look at the pics in the links. Not going to be cheap unless i'm totally wrong & they spot something for an easy fix--which i sure hope is the case.
