Cure for feeling down was created by msavitt

Been going up to top of Santiago Peak on my old bikes solo.  I pack for worst case but so far have been able to go up and back to house without too much drama.  Route up is maple creek truck trail to main divide. Maple not too nuts but main divide, especially north faces that are icy, are another story with 2 ft deep boulder wash board and boulder fields, especially bad when approaching majeska.  I moved here from Chicago in 2014 where I spent my first 49 years in artic cold, but blood must have thinned because I was numb yesterday!    I think I prefer the heat and bugs to the cold.

if anyone else in area wants to test their 50 year old bike PM me. This is the best qual test I can think of for your restoration!

Great content.  Like seeing the bikes being used rather than just being rubbed with a diaper and put back in the garage...

Great view! I think I saw my house in the pan toward the beach. I can see Santiago Peak from my upstairs back bedroom. No diapers rubbing down my rough CT-1, but I've put 1,300 miles on it since I got it in running shape and registered between last April to July. Just all on paved roads, mainly up and down PCH. It has been cold here lately, and at altitudes like that, much more so.

Tom - from my house to maple creek truck trailhead at end of Santiago Canyon road (Live Oak to Santiago Canyon to Silverado Canyon) is 17 miles...this takes 20 to 30 mins I think. Then the ride up from trail head to summit is 13 miles and takes me about 1.5 hours each way because my speed is between 3 and 10 mph...slow and steady to avoid going over the side or falling down and breaking bones

Crazyhorse - yes, nothing better to shake a bad day than a ride like this!

That does sound fun, but these days I like to hike trails on foot :o)

One tank of gas for all that?

Blimey, that's a lot of communication towers. Looks like a fun ride for the DT1.
