My new badge bike project was created by msavitt
I’ve been going nuts without a full blown project and bought this little diamond in the rough from my new friend Jim in the desert.
I think it’s a 1972 DS7, but not sure, feedback appreciated.
mostly complete and turns but one plug has been out for years so not sure what I will find. Broken off shifter shaft (that passes thru engine), I wonder if this was original reason it was parked and forgotten?
seat pan prob not salvageable, missing a few bits.
going to strip her down, think I will try to buy a 5 gal pail of evaporust. Hope engine and expensive bits are decent, either way this will be fun!
any and all tips welcomed and appreciated I’ve been going nuts without a full blown project and bought this little diamond in the rough from my new friend Jim in the desert.

Yes you are correct , 72 DS7 . One year only in US , but there was a 71 model available elsewhere .
I owned one as my first full size bike , almost 50 years back .
They handle pretty well , but only have a five speed box . The RD 250 / 350 box drops in ,
and improves things markedly .

Nice find - a little sunburnt, but complete (even the airbox lid is still there!

).
Are you sticking to an original resto, or just aiming to get a rider? Most R5 parts will fit, and so will some RD250/350 parts. Whilst the online parts lists (eg CMSNL, Partzilla etc) suggest that the same seat was fitted to all bikes, this is not correct, as there were a number of part number supersessions.
