What are these straps for on AT and CT? was created by Gr8uncleal
The AT and CT models (and a couple of others) have two metal wire straps (Yamaha call them bolts!

) connecting the oil tank and battery box - does anyone know their intended function? Maybe to keep the oil tank loosely in place whilst carrying out other work?
Thanks.

Sorry Alan I was half asleep last night when I replied.
I think it's to hold the oil tank whilst you replace the air filter.
Of course I'm probably wrong

Well I am not expert either....
but I am sure that it is exactly as Peter said.... Keep the oil tank connected but away from air filter box when changing /cleaning the filter

I also agree with Pete...
but then maybe we're all wrong.

Fascinating post reply. I never knew but noticed that result when removing the air cleaner on my CT1 the other day.
I just bought a 1970 DT1 and noticed a splined and plastic covered post coming out of the clutch cover just below the kickstart spline. I checked the service manual and looked over parts diagrams but don't see any mention of it. Anybody know what that is for?

Early DT1 had a "right side shift" option. There was a kit to swap the brake pedal to the left side.

That’s very cool. Might come in handy if you ever break off the left side shifter spline. Thank Mark. You are a human encyclopedia. We need to put your brain in the cloud.
