‘68 tank refurb guidance was created by type one

Hi All

so I bought this tank from a guy in Canada in early March …. It’s just arrived and is all good…

I know the tank badge indents have been bondo’d but I’m hoping to over come that and fingers crossed the badge fastener strips are still there …

I’ve seen a few suggestions for
bondo removal and am leaning towards a plumbers torch to soften up the bondo…. Other successful methods welcome ….

it will eventually get a professional paint job so I’m keen to perfect the right pin strip shape … again all guidance and knowledge welcome please …

cheers

Had the same issue with one a '68 tank I was hoping to use. The recesses had been filled in with Bondo (or similar). I used a small propane torch and after just a couple of minutes the filler was easily removed with a putty knife.

Unfortunately in my case the previous owner had cut just the drilled and taped holes for the screws, leaving with some fabrication still to be done (

Successfully removed bondo with a cheap Harbor Freight heat gun…

Paint stripper softens it up too. It's a little slower than a wire brush, but works!

I'm keen to see how you progress with this, especially the paint match and application.

I have 2x 68' tanks in need of restoration and highly recommend plumbers torch to remove the bondo which I used the second time around after slightly bending the tabs using a wire brush and chisel at the first attempt.
