Steve , the bent sidestand is a common problem .
Yamaha upgraded the stand in about 72 , with strengthening plate
added to reinforce the upper section , to prevent or reduce bending .

If the red tank is your keeper then you could buy a rough tank off EBay and transfer the mounting tabs that way. That's how I would go about it. Sometimes you can buy junk tanks cheap and those tabs are usually present and not rusted away.

Thanks for the answers Pete and swoop. Think I will see if I can get a pic of a later stand and maybe add something to stiffen after I straighten.
Good point on getting a third tank for the tabs. The red/orange was supposed to be my 'backup' tank, and I haven't got the original blue one back yet, so plenty of time.

Thanks very much Mark. I will endeavor to now get all or most of the photos I took over the last several months on to imgur and start posting those up with the progress.
Regarding the side stand, I obtained one of the newer reinforced stands and used that temporarily until I was able to get the original un-reinforced one sufficiently straight. I needed to weld on it a bit as well at the foot. All fixed now, painted up and installed.
Pics soon I promise!
Thanks again Mark!

Steve, I really wish we could see the end of this project. I have been working on my 68 DT1 for the last couple of months and after owning it and riding it for the last 53 years (I bought it in 1972) I am still finding things I didn't know were wrong. I bought a new carb in 2004 and used it until a few months ago when I decided I needed to start trying to fix a few of the things that I knew were wrong; today I started rebuilding the "original carb" and when I double checked what I had I now see it is not an original 214 E3 (mine is a later 68), the carb I have is a 214 M which I think is a original GYT kit 30mm. Not a bad thing for me since I have two DT1 MXs that both are using 26mm carbs. Anyway, I know this is not a priority but I hope we can someday find a way to get this site going again with pictures.
