I found a vintage set of Hallman Racing aluminum rims on eBay that ought to work well on this project.
The rims came silver powder coated, but I'd like the look of shiny aluminum, so now it is time to sand off the coating and spend a few hours on the buffing wheel...
The bike's original hubs and spokes are old, crusty, rusty, and nasty - they will require lots of stripping, polishing, and zinc plating as well.

I like it.
RE the welded bracket. To me ,that looks like some one has taken time to design that. Where it joins the frame ,it's been elipted and radiused The joints are neat. No pidgeon shit welds. good to see you left that detail in place.
Re the rims. Soak them in paint thinner, sod rubbing it off,the dust is full of isocianites and not really good for the old internal organs.
regards Ted

Finished up the tires/rims/spokes/hubs

Now moving on to begin the paint preparation. After sanding off the old spray can brown coat, the parts are in surprisingly good shape, with the original '69 gold finish still visible. Thinking perhaps I'll go with the '68 white/black color scheme on this one.

With luck this bike will be ready to attend the 2020 California Dreamin or Endurofest...

The '68 white black is such a timeless look, I think it's a great choice. Wheels look great!

After several months of life's distractions, this old DT1 is finally coming to the finish line.
I went with the white/black paint scheme for a classic look, even though this is a '69.

Assembled the bike, sorting out all the irregularities related to the lowered engine, extended swing arm, and 36mm fork front end, and am now at the tuning stage.

After fiddling with the timing and several rounds of carburetor jetting changes it seems to be running clean. Spark plug has a nice medium-dark tan color and the exhaust smoke is minimal. Yesterday I took it out for a 20 mile run around town and made it back successfully, still running - that's a good sign. I'm hoping to put enough time and miles on it in the next couple weeks to be able to confidently commit to joining the Enduros out at California Dreamin 2020 for the first time.

I notice there’s a lot of things not original. But it looks like it should be! I think that’s a well done retomod, if that’s ok. Very nice job. I love it when a project is well thought out from front to back. I would say you’ll get it tuned as thoroughly as you put it together.

This bike is finally going to get some Endurofest 2021 fun times. Since it was completed last year it has accumulated about 150 miles, mostly on two single day off-road outings, and has performed well. Looking forward to the various riding terrain of Beaver, Utah this month.
