Thanks again Mark. I agree with you about the octane, 87 in modern gas should be fine. In fact that's what I used to use back in the day when I rode my other CT1, and it ran great. I'm going to use grease on the gasket as well. When I took the side case off, 99% of the gasket stuck to the engine, so it seems like they really only put the #5 on the crankcase mating surface.

I checked in here while I was working on an AT-1C to check the spring in or out when mounting the new one, and I'll have to admit that partzilla.com is cataloguing the IT seal number as the correct part for the earlier AT and CT bikes. Springs on both sides. Hard to screw it up!

STEPPING ON NOBODY’S TOES HERE - /…
I HAVE SEEN CRANKCASE CLUTCH OIL LEAKING FOR JUST ABOUT LONG ENOUGH. SO I ASKED MARKT ABOUT YAMA-BOND SEMI # 3. I WAS TOLD TO ONLY USE IT ON ONE SIDE ONLY BY A YAMA-MENTOR.
SO WHICH SIDE DID I CHOOSE TO TRY?
THE OUTSIDE COVER BECAUSE IT’S EASIER TO CLEAN OFF THAN THE CENTER CASE. SO I DABBED IT ON WITH MY INDEX FINGER AROUND THE OUTSIDE PERIMETER AND THE OTHER AREAS THAT TOUCHED THE CENTER CASE. THEN AFTER THREE WIPES WITH CHEAP RUBBING ALCOHOL I PLACED THE LARGE OEM PARTZILLA DT1 GASKET ON THE PEGS. I DID NOT WIPE AWAY EXCESS MATERIAL. TRY LEAVING IT ALONE.
IT DIDN'T LEAK. I GAVE IT TIME TO CURE. 48 HOURS.
Now here’s the most interesting part of the story. Who did this first - / to give me that idea?
Art Ridderof The Lakewood County Club Seller.
We ALL can learn from anyone ….
