Gas cap vent was created by wayno
Another small problem, seem to have a fuel issue when using the bike on the road, appears it's not getting enough fuel. Stripped the gas cap to try and clean the vent, where does it vent out to? Is it within the key slot?

Year, model, and pictures are always helpful (to others that might have the same problem and to get your question answered)
I've never seen a Yamaha cap that vents to the key.

It's a 76 dt400, only pic I have at the moment isn't really clear, can see the groove for the vent that travels around under the seal and ends in a hole into the cap, where does it vent out to?

I don't have a new cap of that style handy... thought you might have a "flip top" type.
Most of the time that style cap vents around the edge where it crimps. Here's a new early cap where you can see how it vents all the way around.
All I can suggest is trying to blow high pressure air into the vent hole and see if you can clear the blockage and/or tell where it vents?
The early non-locking cap should fit too if you want to replace it with something for now... auto parts might have something too... I used a vented Stant cap from NAPA on one years ago, parts guy matched it up, Yamaha wasn't listed. It fit good and used it for years. Just know that many auto caps are not vented if you go that route.

probably is venting around the edge of the cap, tried blowing air into it but so much air into such a small hole blows everywhere so cannot tell.

Morning Wayne.
CMSNL indicates that your 400 is the same as my 360, so here are some photos of mine - I hope that they help.
