Today is a good day
I had a chat with the lovely Jerry M Cline, previous and notably first owner of my RT1.
It was great hearing a few stories from his youth about riding the bike up a local dam spillway and riding trails.
I mentioned the forum and how knowledgeable people are here and also how helpful in tracking him down.
He's only recently stopped ridding owing to arthritis but has a bunch of riding buddies whom he passed the story of our phone call onto and I've already had a email response from one of them.
I'm so glad I decided to track Jerry down and had a chance to let him see and hear (I sent him a video) his old bike.
Thanks Swoop and Lizeec for deciphering the handwriting and JayB (Columbo) for tracking Jerry down.

Wow! Great story! Great old interwebs, amazing how people can be tracked down nowadays. I bet Jerrold felt like he was 20 years old again and remembering his fun riding & college days. Oh to be a teenager and riding those bikes we had, but at least in my case I never had a brand new enduro when I was a kid, all my bikes were pieced together, I think sometimes we worked on them more than we got to ride them.

He did chat very warmly about his bikes from that time.
He told me he had a close friend working for Yamaha and that he was able to buy new bikes at cost price and assemble them, he would then sell the bikes for a profit, maybe some of the bikes owned by people on the forum were his once upon a time.
He said it all ended when the dealerships got wind of it.
