Ignition without battery was created by meadeam

I'll be starting this bike up soon. As I don't have a title yet and will be going barebones dirt mode, I've chosen not to install the wiring harness, lighting, or battery. I have a 12v Vape ignition. . I managed to misplace the instructions from Vape when I cleaned my shop, but I have looked at diagrams online.
It is a very simple system and should be a no-brainer to use. In the photo, the red, yellow, and brown wires go to the stator. Thick black wire to the sparkplug. Blue (not shown) single wire to the kill switch. And finally 2 black wires which would normally go to the regulator. I am unsure if those can just be terminated, or if I need to do something else with them since I won't be using lights. I wasn't getting spark when I tried during lunch today, but I didn't spend any time looking into it yet.

It doesn't look like the wires are plugged in the connector correctly? (metal sticking out)

But yes, match the wire colors. If blue is grounded, no spark just like OE Yamaha kill switch so disconnect the blue to make sure bad kill switch is not stopping spark.

On the two blacks, just tape them up and tuck them out of the way so they don't touch anything.

Yeah the tabs on those connectors are really long. They should be in all the way, but I will make double sure.

I just read on the Vape site that it is very difficult to see the spark and they commonly get complaints of no spark for that reason.

They come with the wires "loose" so you can more easily thread the harness through grommets, etc.

There should have been a matching plastic connector that you snap the individual wires into to make it one three-wire plug to plug into the coil... it it looks like yours is missing?

Also make sure you're using the VAPE spark plug cap and not the stock one. Edgar told me they have a lot of issues with that too.

It's alive!!

I found the plastic connector and reattached the ignition wires properly. Started on the 3rd kick! I gave it a few revs and it actually seems to be running pretty well. Throttle responds crisply, revs rise and fall as they should. I honestly did not expect it to run so well on the first start, I envisioned having to take the carb off a number of times and troubleshoot this and that. The carb is completely rebuilt and I tried to keep everything the same as it was before I took it apart.

I used an IV bottle for gas, but have the auto-lube hooked up. Since I wasn't expecting it to fire up, I didn't start it outdoors and I had to shut it down before I asphyxiated. All the smoke is a good omen though.

What a glorious sound! Louder than I expected... sounds great though. Now to get my gas tank sorted out, finish hooking up the controls and ride it! I'm a little concerned about the clutch but we'll see.

EDIT: Started it up again just because. It developed a rapidly rising idle after I gave it a few twists of the throttle. It seemed to be running away, so I shut it down. Hopefully not a dreaded air leak. My IV bottle was getting empty so perhaps that had something to do with it. At any rate, it is too late to mess with it now and not irritate my neighbors. I'll take this small victory for today.

drat... seems as though my good fortune ran out after initial testing. I had the bike starting and idling nicely, but then left it alone while I tied up some other loose ends before taking it out for a test ride. Now it doesn't want to start. It ran for a few seconds but wouldn't idle. I took the carb off and made sure nothing was stuck and everything is clean and flowing. Put it back on, it started for a few seconds but wouldn't idle. Now won't start at all. Plug was a little damp when I took it out to check. Haven't been back at it yet.
