Pulsar done - What are my options? was created by Brian Peech

DT360. After a couple years of bandaging up the pulsar, it finally exploded beyond repair. So, what are my options? I've been running Rex's CDI, and very happy.... Would love to make this bike the best it can be....

Complete DT250 system from "79 or a Dt400 from "77 on looks good. Or a Dt250 points mag if you wanted to go old school, except you'd need to kick it like you meant it with points as no retard for starting although a working decompressor would soften it.

Has anyone used Rex's ignition kits?

www.rexs-speedshop.com/product/dt360-dt4...nly-kit-no-lighting/

Or I suppose it would be a good time to convert to 12volt?

www.rexs-speedshop.com/product/dt360-dt4...th-12-volt-lighting/

Any opinions on these kits?

There's a search for mentions of Rex's. And I believe the Rex's Speedshop folks are members here. Send then a personal message, if you have questions...

Hi,
I’m also considering buying an complete 12v ignition for my 400B.
Only thing is i want to be sure my oem ignition is out before buying a new one.
I also have a complete ignition from a 77 400 if it’s possible.

I will follow this topic!
Thanks

My pulser packed up on one half [think the white/green half] so wired it in such a way that it used just the advance half white/red & all good for my ride to work bike--30 years ago--i did work once lol.

thanks everyone. I wouldn't say I'm set on Rex's system. But it seems like the simplest, safest route? Finding a used pulsar is proving to be challenging, and you're not sure what condition your getting, and seems like it's nearly the same price as swapping over anyway. Am I missing something as to why Rex's wouldn't be the best route?

I am confused how it doesn't seem to have a pickup / pulsat, or that you don't time it (and are unable to adjust the advance, etc..?) Should this be a concern?

So my pulsar was working just fine, but the plastic / bakelite housing on it cracked off at the mounts and it went flying all around the rotor and is shredded. I might try rebuilding the housing with JB weld or something, but concerned it'll just happen again.

In researching old threads, I also came across the Powedyno or Vape system. From what I gather, aside from higher price, this system offers the option to eliminate the battery, allow for adjusting timing if need be and potentially less chance for kickback?

Are there any other differences to justify the higher price?

I had a DT125LC watercooled trail bike once for the kids which i bought with it locked up [think it was] but was the screws came out of the lighting coil & lunched the pulser. CDI source coil survived so i had a plug coil/cdi box combined off a JR50/LT50/RG50 suzuki which is only one wire in so hooked the sourcy thing straight up to that & timing was ok. Ran well & never played up again. Think you call then a solid state unit [coil/box] but maybe they don't vary the timing like retarding electronically for starting which doesn't matter much on a 125. Might try that setup on my older 360 sometime as have another coil/box if i can find a source coil to fit my stator with about 350 ohms resistance.
