Full Face Helmet With Peak ? was created by KennyV

I have two full face with visor Fox Racing helmets, one with fold down face shield and one without. I really like both but they are getting really old. I'm now looking at options to replace them so I'm also looking forward to hear some thoughts and recommendations.

I buy the Arai XD4. Fits me well and is very comfortable. I have several bikes that cost less than my helmet. The top-tier protection is worth it. Even at less than 30 mph you can get a serious head or neck injury with a cheap helmet that only meets minimum "DOT" requirements. I go for the highest Snell rating available.

No annoying "buffeting" or "head pulling" from the wind catching the visor on the XD4 which is another plus.

I use an older Shark EVO1 (newer versions are available ) - can be used as "Full Face" or "Open Face". Simple to convert from one to the other whilst still on your head - and the "chin / face guard" folds around and tucks in neatly on the back of the helmet.
It has a flip down visor as well as a short flip down "sun visor" (same as sun glasses).
The Shark EVO1 is good when you have to ride some highways etc. before going "off road" . Also around town it is simple to "flip" open when doing a quick visit to a shop instead of having to remove the helmet. Visors are still useable when the front is up.
I do use an Open Face/Jet Style helmet at times but not often as the Shark gives you the best of both worlds.

Since we're talking helmets this is something to try at the next gathering with your buddies.

The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Bolt which is the Cyclegear band has a decent adventure helmet which works quite well and will fit most budgets. Mine has served me well. The visor closes totally waterproof, and it also has a tinted inner drop visor for bright days. Various color and mirrored vigors available. Tend to run fairly small size wiz even.

IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

Here's an interesting eye opener I found while I was browsing new helmet options.

I went with an AFX FX-39 because they come in blindingly bright colors, which is nice if you're in traffic. Looks like it's been updated to a newer version. Kind of mid range price. Personally if i was in the market again I'd look into a MIPS certified helmet and spend a little more for one. I don't understand why so many helmets are only offered in black or white.

Thanks Kenny... it's true there's a lot of cool helmets out there that might not be very safe. Snell M certification tends to be on the leading edge of safety which is why that's what I buy. They just came out with a M2020 standard which my next helmet will have.

Not just about "impact" either. A guy in the local riding group ended up with a severe neck injury because the integrated visor caught on something and jerked his head around during a slow-speed fall... Snell requires "break away" parts to help prevent those kinds of injuries.

Yes, Snell rated helmets are more expensive. But still cheap insurance compared to hospital bills and dealing with an injury that could have been lessened or prevented.
